The Village of New Lenox is set to embrace the holiday season with a series of events, including the Gobbler Gauntlet, holiday lights displays, and visits from Santa Claus. Horse-drawn wagon and train rides will also be part of the celebrations.
According to the New Lenox Community Park District's website, the Gobbler Gauntlet 5K is scheduled for November 16 at 8 a.m. It is open to runners aged seven and older. The event will take place at the Sanctuary Golf Course located at 485 North Marley Road. The course features mostly flat terrain with some rolling hills. Participants will have access to a water station and an electronically timed finish line. Each participant will receive one complimentary drink in the clubhouse, and medals will be awarded to the top two finishers in each age category. Proceeds from this event will support the New Lenox Police Department (NLPD) Scholarship Program.
The Village of New Lenox website states that Christmas in the Commons will occur on Saturdays and Sundays from November 30 to December 22, between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. This annual tradition offers free admission and includes holiday lights, a 50-foot-tall lighted Santa Claus, visits from Santa, horse-drawn wagon rides, and a synthetic skating rink.
According to the park district's website, the Jolly Jamboree is planned for Friday, December 6, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Lions Community Center located at 1 Manor Drive. The event promises holiday-themed activities, games, crafts to take home, and a pizza dinner provided by the park district. The registration deadline for this event is Monday, November 25.
A news release from CASA of River Valley invites residents of New Lenox to participate in the 16th Annual Christmas Express on December 7 and 8. The holiday train journey departs from New Lenox train station at 300 N. Church St., traveling round trip to Tinley Park. Participants can visit Santa for photos and enjoy breakfast or lunch along with various activities at the Children's Workshop in Tinley Park. Tickets are priced at $45 each, with all proceeds benefiting children experiencing abuse and neglect in Will and Grundy County through CASA programs. Trains depart daily at four scheduled times: 8:39 a.m., 10:39 a.m., 12:39 p.m., and 2:39 p.m., with tickets required for guests aged two years or older.
