The Children's Renewal Project at Cook Park Library is making significant progress, with several key milestones achieved in February. The walls have been painted, the family bathroom tiled, vinyl flooring and carpet installed, and a temporary wall removed.
One of the main goals of the project was to introduce more color into the children's area. Before renovations began, the walls were all one shade of gray. Now, vibrant paint and tile complement colorful carpet and vinyl flooring. More changes are expected with upcoming furniture additions.
"The space is coming to life!" said library representatives. Visitors passing by Cook Park Library on Cook Avenue may notice these colorful transformations taking shape.
As of February 28, the temporary wall blocking off the construction area has been removed to allow for final painting. Although still an active work zone and off-limits to patrons, some sneak peeks are possible through stanchions and a temporary partition.
One major change includes the removal of a wall that once housed family DVDs. In its place stands a new ceiling soffit creating a welcoming entrance to the space.
However, there has been an unexpected delay in completing the project due to manufacturing hold-ups on key items. As a result, reopening has been pushed from April-end to May-end.
In response to this delay, the Temporary Children's Area will remain in the lower-level Meeting Room throughout May! with all scheduled programs relocated accordingly. Library staff urge visitors to double-check locations when registering for events.
"We know this isn't the news you were hoping for (trust us we're just as bummed!) but we're still incredibly excited for the big reveal," said library representatives thanking patrons for their patience.
