Illinois State Rep. Bob Morgan (D-Deerfield) said that a controversy surrounding a Deerfield mother, Nicole Georgas, and her daughter’s privacy concerns in a school locker room was “a lie,” dismissing claims that female students were forced to change in front of a biological male student. Rep. Morgan made his comments on the House floor on March 18.

“Incredible schools, incredible families, an incredible community that has come together to deal with this situation. Because it's a lie,” Rep. Morgan said on the House floor.

Morgan's remarks came in reaction to news about a local controversy involving a Deerfield mother, Nicole Georgas, and her daughter, who were caught in a dispute with school officials over privacy in locker rooms. According to Fox News, Georgas claims that her daughter and other female students were forced to change in front of a biological male student in their locker room, a situation she described as both invasive and inappropriate.

The girls, uncomfortable with the male student’s presence, decided to skip changing for gym class, as previously reported by the Lake County Gazette. The next day, Assistant Principal Cathy Van Treese reportedly pulled the girls aside for questioning, and later that day, Van Treese, Assistant Superintendent Joanna Ford, and multiple teachers entered the locker room, forcing the girls to change into their uniforms. The transgender student was reportedly allowed to remain in the locker room while the girls changed.

“Deerfield, IL State Rep. Bob Morgan (D) stands on the House Floor, accusing teenage girls—allegedly forced to change in front of a male student—of lying,” Illinois State Rep Blaine Wilhour said in a March 18 social media post on X. “How does he know? Guess liberals only believe women when it suits them.”

Georgas has filed a civil rights complaint with the Department of Education, claiming that the district’s actions violate Title IX, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in federally funded education programs and activities, according to the Lake County Gazette.

Bob Morgan is a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the 58th district since 2019, according to his Ballotpedia page. Professionally, he has served as the state's lead healthcare attorney and as its marijuana "czar."
