**Article: Lake Barrington Announces Yard Waste Collection Guidelines for 2025**
The Village of Lake Barrington has released its guidelines for yard waste collection in 2025. Curbside Composting will be collected on regularly scheduled garbage and recycling days from April 1 through November 30. The program accepts both yard and food waste, which should be placed in biodegradable paper yard waste bags or lidded plastic containers. Plastic bags are not permitted, and compostable material in such bags will not be collected.
All food types, including meat, bones, and leftovers, are accepted into the compost program alongside food-soiled kitchen paper like coffee filters and paper towels. BPI-certified compostable bags may be used to line kitchen compost bins.
Effective May 1, 2024, all yard waste stickers purchased at Village Hall will cost $3.00. These stickers can also be bought from various locations:
- LRS: 844-633-3577
- Lake Barrington Village Hall: 847-381-6010 (23860 N. Old Barrington Road)
- ReMax Now: 847-381-5555 (5043 Shoreline Road)
- Mower Works: 847-842-8035 (22166 N. Hillview Drive)
Yard waste season runs from April 1 through November 30 each year. LRS will collect yard waste on the same day as garbage and recycling, with all items needing to be placed out for collection by **6 AM**. Residents can choose between using stickers or enrolling in a subscription program.
In November, leaf collection will be unlimited and will not require a yard waste sticker.
Yard waste includes organic materials resulting from the cultivation and maintenance of gardens, lawns, shrubbery, trees, and vines. Organic food scraps such as bread, cereal, coffee grounds, dairy products, eggshells, fruits, grains, pasta, shells, and vegetables are also accepted from April through November.
Unacceptable materials include sod, dirt, artificial Christmas trees, wreath greenery, and garland.
Guidelines stipulate using minimum two-ply biodegradable landscape waste paper bags not exceeding fifty pounds or thirty gallons when full. Resident-owned containers must not exceed thirty-three gallons or fifty pounds when full and must be marked with "YW" or "Yard Waste." Brush bundles should be tied with biodegradable string or twine with branches no longer than four feet or thicker than three inches in diameter.
Each bundle or container requires one sticker unless enrolled in the subscription service; bagged leaves do not require a sticker.
For details on the annual fee charged by LRS for the Subscription Yard Waste Service, residents can call **844-633-3577**. Subscribers may place up to six metal or plastic containers or biodegradable paper Kraft bags per collection; any additional bundles require one sticker each.
