Clarke Mosquito is scheduled to conduct a village-wide mosquito spraying in Vernon Hills on the evening of August 13, weather permitting. Residents who wish to receive advance notice of the spraying can contact the Clarke Mosquito Hotline at 630-671-3100 and request to be added to the "Prior Notification List" for Vernon Hills. To join this list, individuals will need to provide their name, address, and phone number, which will enable them to get a call from Clarke on the day of the spray.
The announcement also encourages residents to take precautions recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to prevent mosquito bites. These include wearing EPA-approved repellents that contain DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, or Oil of Lemon/Eucalyptus; covering exposed skin with long pants and sleeves; choosing light-colored clothing; limiting time outdoors during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active; and implementing measures both indoors and outdoors to reduce mosquito presence.
Other preventive actions suggested are using air conditioning or screens to keep mosquitoes out of homes, eliminating standing water where mosquitoes can lay eggs, maintaining short grass in yards, removing containers that may collect water such as buckets or birdbaths, and using fans to help deter mosquitoes.
Residents seeking more information or wishing to sign up for notifications can reach out directly via the provided hotline.
