Gill and Gabehart named as Coal City High School homecoming royalty

Carter Gill and Keirsten Gabehart were named the 2025 Coal City High School Homecoming king and queen during halftime of the seniors vs. staff flag football game on Monday. The pair was chosen by fellow students. Other members of this year’s homecoming court include Julian Micetich, Gavin Berger, Drake Stewart, Maria Campagna, Addison Harvey, and Mckenna Stewart.

Homecoming events will continue throughout the week. Activities include themed dress-up days, spirit games scheduled for Wednesday, a pep assembly on Thursday, a parade Friday afternoon followed by the football game, and a dance at the high school on Saturday night.

Coal City High School is part of Coal City Community Unit School District 1, which serves Grundy and Will counties. The district includes several schools: Coal City Early Childhood Center, Coal City Elementary School, Coal City Intermediate School, Coal City Middle School, and Coal City High School (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

According to the Illinois State Board of Education, there are 153 teachers in the district with an average salary of $69,297 before pension contributions; nearly 78 percent are women and about 22 percent are men.
