United Township High School has announced several upcoming events and activities for students, including details on meal options, club meetings, sports gatherings, and community initiatives.
On October 23, the cafeteria will serve Italian chicken sandwiches or BBQ pork on whole grain buns, along with oven-baked sweet potato fries, mixed green salad, craisins, and applesauce.
Students are invited to participate in the Hunger Drive Skate Night on Thursday, October 23 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission requires either three canned goods or $5 per person; skate rental is not included in the admission fee. The snack bar will be open during the event.
The East Moline Public Library is hosting a Haunted House on October 24 and 25 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is free and costumes are encouraged. The library will announce the official theme soon; updates can be found on Instagram at @eastmolinelibrary.
The school is also promoting participation in the Student Hunger Drive with themed days scheduled from Monday, October 27 through Friday, October 31. Each day encourages students to bring specific food items such as condiments, peanut butter and jelly, canned goods, cake mixes, or cereal boxes.
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, the Hope Club will host an informational table in the Commons during all lunch periods to raise awareness about breast cancer risks among women.
Sports announcements include a meeting for boys interested in playing basketball this winter on Tuesday, November 4 after school in the Commons. Girls interested in soccer should attend a meeting on Monday, October 27 at 3:15 p.m., also in the Commons.
Several clubs have meetings scheduled: P7 Club meets Friday morning (October 24) for muffins and an uplifting lesson; Student Council gathers Friday morning as well to discuss details of the Student Hunger Drive; LGBT+ club meets Tuesday afternoon (October 28) for a Halloween-themed gathering; Gearheads Club invites car enthusiasts to join weekly sessions in the Auto Mechanics shop; Tri-M Music Honor Society’s Music Bingo Night takes place Friday night, November 7 at 6:30 p.m., with entry costing $10 per person.
