Lake Forest Schools announced an in-person Family Action Network event on November 3, featuring author Jeff Selingo discussing his book "Dream School" with Superintendent Dr. Matthew Montgomery at the Gorton Center.
According to Lake Forest Schools, the event will host Jeff Selingo, a journalist and bestselling author, who will share research and insights to help families move beyond traditional rankings and identify colleges that provide value, opportunity, and a sense of belonging. The discussion aims to guide families in finding the best college fit. The first 100 attendees will receive a free copy of "Dream School."
The Gorton Center states that "Dream School" highlights what matters most in higher education, emphasizing job prospects, hands-on learning, and a sense of belonging. The book profiles 75 accessible, affordable colleges and is organized into three parts: questioning the value of elite degrees, prioritizing affordability and opportunity, and ensuring a degree delivers tangible benefits.
Lake Forest Elementary School District 67 serves approximately 1,600 students in grades Pre-K through 8. The district includes three elementary schools—Cherokee Elementary (K-4), Everett Elementary (K-4), and Sheridan Elementary (Pre-K-4)—as well as Deer Path Middle School (5-8). Known for its innovative instructional practices, District 67 emphasizes inclusive education and personalized learning experiences that support academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development. According to Lake Forest Schools, the district’s mission is to inspire and empower students to maximize growth and cultivate respect for others in a dynamic, safe learning environment.
Lake Forest Community High School District 115 serves about 1,500 students in grades 9–12 from Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, and Knollwood. The district provides a wide curriculum with advanced placement courses, electives, athletics, performing arts, clubs, and career pathways while also emphasizing social-emotional growth and community service. More than 95% of students pursue higher education after graduation. Feeder schools include Deer Path Middle School, Lake Bluff Middle School, and local private and parochial schools.
