Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) records show that 83.0 percent of Barrington High School's (BHS) 2015 graduating class enrolled in college within 12 months of graduation.

The 2015 state average for students in public schools was 70 percent.

For BHS, its college enrollment rate marks an improvement over 2014, when 80.0 percent of its graduates chose post-secondary education.

The Class of 2015 college-readiness rates among other high schools in Lake County: Libertyville High School (84.4 percent), Vernon Hills High School (78.9 percent) and Lake Zurich High School (75.0 percent). The data, collected by the National Student Clearinghouse, includes two- and four-year colleges.

Enrollment at BHS in 2015 was 3,084; 779 (25.26 percent) were seniors.

Also, ISBE said 75.7 percent of BHS seniors were "college ready" in 2015, vs. an average of 46 percent statewide.

All students who score a 21 on the ACT qualify as "college ready."

BHS students did better on math (70.4 percent) and English (82.0 percent) and worse on science (62.7) and reading (62.9).

Only 50.2 percent of BHS students were college ready in all four subjects, ISBE said.
