Lake County Energy & Environment Committee met April 7.

1. Call to Order

Chair Wilke called the meeting to order at 10:55 a.m.

2. Pledge of Allegiance

Vice Chair Parekh led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Matt Meyers, Assistant County Administrator said they received notification Kathy Champine, resident, would provide public comment, but she was not present in the meeting.

Minutes for March 3, 2021.

A motion was made by Member Altenberg, seconded by Member Parekh, that Consent Agenda item 8.1 be approved. The motion carried by the following vote:

Aye: 4 - Member Altenberg, Vice Chair Parekh, Member Wasik and Chair Wilke

Absent: 3 - Member Barr, Member Hewitt and Member Martini

8.2 21-0565

Presentation on Sustainable College of Lake County.

David Husemoller, College of Lake County, (CLC) presented a detailed review of sustainability efforts at the College of Lake County. He reviewed the College's efforts with respect to their buildings and energy related construction, lighting upgrades, waste reduction, and events related to sustainability. Discussion ensued.

The committee provided interest in partnering with CLC on sustainability efforts in the future. Matt Meyers, Assistant County Administrator, stated that he would review options with Mr. Husemoller and report back at a future committee.

Presentation and discussion related to Lake County’s procurement process as it relates to sustainability.

RuthAnne Hall, Finance and Administrative Services, presented what sustainable practices are implemented through the County's purchasing process. Identifying sustainability in a public sector, experts say to consider three areas, economic, social and environment.

Significant discussion ensued.

9. County Administrator's Report

Matt Meyers, Assistant County Administrator, said staff will provide an update as to what is in place regarding native plantings, progress at the Central Permit Facility, a summary of vehicles, what has been started in 2019 and what should continue to go forward into the budget season.

Kelly Shelton, Shelton Solutions, also is preparing a presentation on the County's drafted waste reduction plan, the second component to the Net Zero planning.

Chair Wilke requested to take another look at wind turbines, adding there is a new Board since the County first began to discuss the topic. Mr. Meyers said he will connect with Eric Waggoner, Planning Building and Development Director, and follow up on this item.
