Legislative Update – Minimum Wage Tax Credit
What: The Chambers All In for Economic Recovery’s bill to restructure the Minimum Wage Tax Credit’s incremental phase-out, HB 5320, was just granted a subject matter hearing. It is our hope that our bill will be forwarded to a committee vote soon.
Why this bill matters: Labor costs (and other costs) are rising while revenues are down, and businesses are still hurting. This legislation is one part of a platform to create a foundation for economic recovery and help diminish the financial hardship businesses are facing.
Action we took: The Highland Park Chamber filed a witness slip and requested co-sponsorship from our State Representative Bob Morgan. The actions of our coalition of Chambers statewide were instrumental in carrying the bill to this point. In the coming days, we will keep you updated on the progression of HB 5320.
We are sharing this success with you, our members. This is a win for our coalition, our organization, and our business community.
Thank you for investing in your business and the work we do on your behalf.

Brief survey on "People with Disabilities in the Workplace"
Through our ongoing partnership with the TrueNorth Educational Cooperative 804, we have been working closely with Dr. Laura Owens from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She along with her colleagues are conducting an international study entitled, Assessing Attitudes toward People with Disabilities in the Workplace.
The study was designed to identify needs and areas in which they can support businesses in finding qualified candidates with disabilities and identify the supports needed to ensure a long-term employer-employee relationship.
The employment of people with disabilities remains a global challenge and a distant reality for many, despite evidence on the positive impact of inclusive workplaces.
To this end, Dr. Owens would greatly appreciate if you could take 15 minutes of your time to respond to the survey (link below) by March 1, 2022. Thank you.
Thank you to our Champion Members
for their partnership in the Chamber's mission.
