The data shows 360 men and 18 women were released in Lake County. Of the parolees, four were veterans, and the median age was 35. The youngest parolee was a 20-year-old man convicted of homicide in 2021, and the oldest was a 72-year-old man convicted in 1988.
The offender who was incarcerated the longest was Johnny Veal. He was convicted of homicide in 1972 when he was 19 years old. He is now 70.
Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
