The Round Lake Beach Police Department has announced the sudden passing of Commander Christopher Cordes on November 3.

"It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Commander Christopher Cordes, who passed away suddenly at his home yesterday afternoon," said Round Lake Beach Police Chief Wayne Wilde Jr. in a Facebook post. "His commitment and dedication to this community will never be forgotten. Please keep his family and members of our department in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

According to an obituary from Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, Cordes, aged 56, died at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Illinois. He had served with the Round Lake Police Department for over 24 years and was promoted to commander in July 2022.

Cordes's LinkedIn profile indicates he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and management from the University of Iowa.

The obituary states that Cordes was the son of Frank and Lee Ann (Michaels) Cordes. He grew up in Morton Grove, Illinois, before moving to Antioch in 1994. He married Tracy Terrell in Waukegan, Illinois. His survivors include his wife; two children, Carter Cordes of Antioch and Caitlin Cordes of Lakemoor, Illinois; three grandchildren; his father Frank Cordes of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; siblings Kelly Schneider of Vernon Hills, Gaele Cordes of Racine, Wisconsin, and Bob Cordes of Crossville, Tennessee; as well as other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Lee Ann and a brother Frank Cordes Jr.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, November 7 at Strang Funeral Home of Antioch located at 1055 Main St., Antioch. Services will commence at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home with private interment following at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to the Round Lake Beach Police Foundation K-9 Unit.
