The Lake County Health and Community Services Committee is set to deliberate on January 7 regarding an emergency appropriation of $51,722. This funding comes from the AIDS Foundation of Chicago's Ryan White Part B grant, which was secured after the adoption of the fiscal year 2024 budget.

According to the committee's agenda for January 7, $30,000 of this revenue is earmarked for the Sexually Transmitted Infections - Grants Nonprofits fund account. The remaining $21,722 will be allocated to the Mental Health PCS - BMB Grants Nonprofit fund account.

Additionally, another appropriation will be considered from a grant provided by the Illinois Department of Public Health. This Comprehensive Health Protection grant, amounting to $15,000 for opioid overdose prevention, was also secured post-budget adoption.

The agenda outlines that this funding will be utilized to distribute naloxone to reverse opioid overdoses, provide fentanyl and xylazine test strips, and offer training on overdose prevention and naloxone use.
