The Round Lake Police Department is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police, and over 200 local law enforcement agencies to enhance enforcement efforts across the state in recognition of Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

"Distracted driving is dangerous, claiming 58 lives in Illinois in 2023," said a representative from the Round Lake Police Department. "We need everyone’s support in making our roads safer, which includes staying focused behind the wheel. "

During April, there will be increased law enforcement efforts as officers stop and ticket anyone violating distracted driving laws and other Illinois motor vehicle regulations.

In Illinois, using a phone in anything other than hands-free mode is both dangerous and illegal. The campaign emphasizes this with its slogan: "Put the Phone Away or Pay. "

The Illinois distracted driving campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by IDOT.
