Lake County has announced the launch of a broadband survey, inviting residents to provide feedback on their home or business internet access. The announcement was made in a press release on March 25, 2025.
According to the Lake County Digital Growth Initiative, an online survey will be conducted through April 11 to gather input on broadband access issues and needs within the county. This effort aims to identify solutions for future development. The survey is part of the Broadband Breakthrough program, a 12-week initiative where county leaders will collaborate with experts to analyze survey results and determine the best actions for improving community broadband access.
"It is critical that we hear from as many residents as possible on this important issue," said Sandy Hart, Lake County Board Chair. "The survey results will provide key insights into accessibility of high-speed internet and technology throughout the county, allowing us to determine next steps."
Broadband Breakthrough is led by The Benton Institute for Broadband and Society and Reid Consulting Group, with support from Illinois Broadband Lab, the University of Illinois Extension, and Illinois State University. All Lake County residents are encouraged to participate in the survey while connected to their home or business internet to ensure accurate responses. The survey is available in both English and Spanish.
"We knew when we launched the Digital Growth Initiative that we would need to collaborate with and learn from experts," said Jennifer Clark, Technology Committee Chair and Lake County Board Member for District 15. "That is why we sought out and joined the Broadband Breakthrough program."
The Lake County Board consists of 19 elected members representing different districts and is responsible for approving the county budget, financial matters, and ordinances affecting government departments. Meetings are held in person at the County Administrative Tower in Waukegan or remotely via Zoom, with schedules and agendas available online. The board convenes monthly for regular sessions along with additional committee meetings, all of which can be viewed live on LCTV.
