The Round Lake Police Department will take part in several statewide traffic safety campaigns during the Labor Day holiday period. Officers will focus on identifying impaired drivers, enforcing seat belt laws, and addressing unsafe driving from August 15 through the early hours of September 2.

According to the department, this effort is part of Illinois’ “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High Get a DUI,” and “Click It or Ticket” initiatives. Officers will patrol with a zero-tolerance policy toward impaired driving, which includes alcohol, cannabis, or any other impairing substances.

“Driving under the influence — whether it’s alcohol, cannabis or any impairing drug — is not just risky, it’s illegal. Officers will be patrolling with zero tolerance for impaired driving, because our goal is to protect the people of Round Lake,” the department stated.

Seat belt enforcement is also a priority as part of “Click It or Ticket.” The police emphasize that wearing seat belts remains one of the most effective ways to prevent injury or death in crashes. They urge all occupants—both front and back seat—to buckle up every trip.

“Officers will also be enforcing seat belt laws as part of the ‘Click It or Ticket’ initiative. Buckling up is the most effective way to prevent serious injury or death in a crash. Everyone in the vehicle — front seat or back — should be properly buckled, every trip.”

The department encourages residents to celebrate responsibly by planning ahead and using designated drivers if necessary. “Please enjoy the holiday weekend safely and responsibly. Plan ahead, use a designated driver, and never get behind the wheel impaired. These decisions can save lives.”

This local campaign is connected to a larger statewide program managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). IDOT oversees both “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” efforts with support from federal highway safety funds. The campaign is further promoted by IDOT’s media outreach called “It’s Not a Game,” which runs across radio, television, and digital platforms to inform about the dangers associated with impaired driving.
