The Round Lake Police Department carried out a traffic safety campaign from July 8 to August 1 as part of the "Speeding Catches Up With You" initiative. The campaign aimed to encourage safer driving habits and remind motorists about the dangers of speeding.
This effort was coordinated with other law enforcement agencies, including the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the Illinois State Police. The statewide campaign focused on reducing highway fatalities and injuries related to speeding.
During the enforcement period, Round Lake Police issued 40 citations for speeding. Officers also gave out four citations for seat belt violations, three for suspended or revoked or no valid licenses, four for uninsured motorists, and 10 citations for other traffic violations.
"We urge all drivers traveling through our community to slow down, obey speed limits and drive responsibly. Every decision you make behind the wheel matters," said a spokesperson from the department.
The campaign supports IDOT’s "It’s Not a Game" initiative, which highlights that unsafe driving can have serious outcomes. Funding for this speed enforcement came from federal highway safety dollars managed by IDOT.
