There will be no classes in Granite City Community Unit School District 9 (GCSD9) on Friday, October 10, due to County Institute Day, and Monday, October 13, in observance of Columbus Day. Students are scheduled to return to school on Tuesday, October 14.

The district includes schools such as Coolidge Junior High School, Frohardt Elementary School, Granite City High School, Grigsby Intermediate School, Maryville Elementary School, Mitchell Elementary School, Prather Elementary School, and Wilson Elementary School. According to the Illinois State Board of Education, GCSD9 employs 320 teachers with an average salary of $67,898 before pension contributions. Of these teachers, 77.1 percent are women and 22.9 percent are men. The report also states that no teacher in the district has more than ten absences in a school year.
