Diamond Lake School District 76 students suspended 49 times in a single school year

Diamond Lake School District 76 reported 49 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 49 students during the year. That equates to 4.8 percent of the 1,015 students enrolled.

Of the 32 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 26 incidents. There were three incidents of violence without physical injury. For 30 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 17 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes eight incidents. There were four incidents of tobacco. For 15 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
