The Barrington Area Unit District 220 superintendent's tenure is coming to an end, but he is giving decision-makers time to start the process to find a new top administrator.
Superintendent Brian Harris said that he will retire after the 2020-2021 school year, the Daily Herald reported in mid-June.
"I live and breathe the slogan for this district, and that's 'To Inspire All Learners to Achieve Excellence,'" Harris said, the Daily Herald reported. "And you know, it never leaves my mind. It's always there. I'm proud to say that we've done some amazing things in the six years with one more to go."

School board officials are determining how best to replace Harris, who has led the district for more than five years and has approximately 30-years of experience in education, the Daily Herald reported.
"I do want to acknowledge Brian will leave big shoes to fill," school board President Penny Kazmier said, the Daily Herald reported. "His leadership and contributions to Barrington 220 are too many to count."
Among the accomplishments since Harris took over the position six years ago was a $147 million ballot measure for building improvements, which was accomplished without an increase to property taxes, the Daily Herald reported. That came only a year after a $187 million proposal which included property tax increases was rejected by voters.
Harris replaced Tom Leonard in 2014, the Daily Herald reported. His most recent listed base salary is $287,110.
