College of Lake County issued the following announcement on Nov. 29
Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) performers aged 16 and older are invited to audition for the College of Lake County Theatre Department’s winter production “I Have a Story to Tell.” Auditions will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6 at the Studio Theatre located at 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake, and Tuesday, Dec. 7 at Three Brothers Theatre, 221 N. Genesee St., Waukegan.
Those auditioning need to present a two-minute memorized monologue from any contemporary play. Original monologues are welcome, and actors may share a story in the medium of their choice: movement, spoken word or song. Face masks are required for all individuals auditioning.
Actors should only attend one audition day, not both. Callbacks will be Thursday, Dec. 9 starting at 6:30 p.m.
Rehearsals will begin Jan. 18, 2022, Monday through Thursday evenings. Performances are Feb. 25-27 at the Grayslake Studio Theatre and March 4-6 at Three Brothers Theatre. Actors should ensure they are available for performance dates before auditioning.
Myth, ritual and story—these are the origins of theatre. Every culture, every community and every individual has a story to tell. These stories entertain, pass down wisdom, and facilitate connection. Inspired by many traditions, including African Griots and Hawaiian Talk Story, “I Have a Story to Tell” invites BIPOC students and members of the community to the center of the creative process to devise their own theatrical experience and to tell their stories.
