With the help of community members, the Green Living Fair is returning to Lake County this year on Saturday, April 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. After previously being held in Libertyville, this year’s event comes to the University Center of Lake County located at College of Lake County’s (CLC) Grayslake Campus to kick off Earth Week activities at the college. The fair is free to attendees and exhibitors.Paula Lubenow is a board member of the Town & Country Garden Club of Libertyville and wanted to have a greater impact on conservation in the community. She started calling around to find out about the Green Living Fair and see if it could again be held.

Eventually, she connected with people who previously ran and exhibited at the fair and formed a team to make it happen

“We’re bringing this popular event back and connecting with more people across Lake County.” said Sustain Libertyville Board Member Cathy O’Brien, who previously ran the event for nine years.

The Green Living Fair is a free and fun opportunity for community members to learn about how to live a greener life and interact with people at green organizations making a difference. Lubenow and CLC Sustainability Manager David Husemoller are co-chairing the event. The Green Living Fair was moved to the University Center to accommodate larger attendance from more suburbs in Lake County. The CLC Sustainability Council is a major sponsor for the event. Solid Waste Agency of Lake County is also a sponsor, and Baxter Credit Union is providing reusable bags for fair attendees.“We are super excited to help bring the Green Living Fair out to Grayslake for an action-packed day,” said Husemoller.

“After this event, folks can also stop by the campus to see what’s going on at CLC’s open house and the inventions at the Maker Faire Lake County also happening on campus.”Nearly 50 green organizations will exhibit at the event, including environmental clubs from area high schools. There will also be ten vendors selling sustainable products, such as honey, bath products, upcycled gifts, and more.Everyone in the community is invited to attend the Green Living Fair and is encouraged to bring bikes, shoes and glasses to recycle. Working Bikes from Chicago will be on hand to collect bikes that can be repurposed for distribution in underserved communities. For more information, contact Paula Lubenow at paulamktg@aol.comAbout College of Lake CountyCollege of Lake County is a comprehensive community college committed to equitable high-quality education, cultural enrichment and partnerships to advance the diverse communities it serves in northeastern Illinois.
