Illinois drivers will soon have the option to renew their driver's licenses for either four or eight years, thanks to legislation sponsored by State Senator Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods). The bill, signed into law on August 9, mandates that the Secretary of State develop rules for this new process by January 1, 2027. Motorists must be given the four-year or eight-year option no later than July 1 of that same year.
