Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) records show that 82.0 percent of Crystal Lake South High School's (CLSHS) 2015 graduating class enrolled in college within 12 months of graduation.
The 2015 state average for students in public schools was 70 percent.
For CLSHS, its college enrollment rate marks an improvement over 2014, when 77.0 percent of its graduates chose post-secondary education.
Among other high schools in McHenry County, the Class of 2015 college readiness rate at Prairie Ridge High School (71.8 percent), Harvard High School (26.8 percent), Woodstock North High School (43.6 percent), Johnsburg High School (53.2 percent) and Crystal Lake Central High School (59.5 percent) were all lower than that of CLSHS.
The data, collected by the National Student Clearinghouse, includes two- and four-year colleges.
Enrollment at CLSHS in 2015 was 1,797; 476 (26.49 percent) were seniors.
Also, ISBE said 62.2 percent of CLSHS seniors were "college ready" in 2015, vs. an average of 46 percent statewide.
All students who score a 21 or higher on the ACT qualify as "college ready."
CLSHS students did better on math (55.2 percent) and English (78.4 percent) and worse on science (49.1) and reading (51.4).
Only 34.5 percent of CLSHS students were college ready in all four subjects, ISBE said.
