Zion-Benton Township High School District 126 students suspended, expelled 126 times in a single school year

Zion-Benton Township High School District 126 reported 13 expulsions and 113 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 126 students during the year. That equates to 4.8 percent of the 2,620 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for 11 incidents with violence without physical injury and two incidents with drugs.

Of the 113 out-of-school suspensions, 47 were given to boys and 66 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes 99 incidents. There were 11 incidents of drugs. For 73 incidents, students were suspended for 5-10 days.
