Lake County to hold Wednesday meetings on road work, bike trail plans
The Lake County Division of Transportation will hold public hearings on Wednesday to get input on two upcoming development projects. The first meeting, 5-7 p.m. at the Village of Hawthorn Woods Aquatic Center, will consider proposed improvements to the intersection of Gilmer and Midlothian Roads in Hawthorn Woods and unincorporated Lake County.

$2,000 reward offered in deadly Prairie View hit-and-run
The Lake County Sheriff's Office is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for a fatal hit-and-run that occurred Oct. 12 in unincorporated Prairie View.

Lake County's first multi-lane roundabout opens in Lake Barrington
The Lake County Division of Transportation opened a new roundabout late last week at River and Roberts Roads in Lake Barrington, Lake County's fifth roundabout. It's also the county's first multi-lane roundabout. Lake County transportation officials have been studying traffic patterns at Roberts and River Roads since 2008, when the intersection began seeing up to 20,000 vehicles daily, with heavy congestion.

The Illinois Small Business Development and International Trade Center (SBDC/ITC) will hold the Small Business Success in Lake County Conference for small-business owners 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 5 at the Holiday Inn Gurnee Convention Center.

Lake County Board adopts changes to Watershed Development Ordinance
The Lake County Board recently adopted several amendments to the County-wide Watershed Development Ordinance (WDO).The ordinance sets minimum standards for new development projects taking place anywhere within Lake County's watershed.

Revised concept plan approved for Fort Sheridan preserve
Lake County's Planning and Restoration Committee recently approved a revised concept plan for the Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve, District 13 board member Sandra Hart said. The revised plan was based on public feedback and on-site surveys of several potential parking lot locations. Project staff monitored three parking lots four times per day every day from March 17 to August 17.

Text-a-Tip offers crisis hot-line services through cell phones
Text-a-Tip, an anonymous text-based crisis hot line backed by Linking Efforts Against Drugs (LEADS) was successfully implemented in Deerfield and Highland Park schools in March. The program is now available to all Lake County communities and will soon be available in cities across the country.

The Lake County legal system again will participate in a Veterans Day oral-history project honoring the contributions of local veterans. The Library of Congress' Veterans' History Project collects and archives the stories of veterans for use by researchers and others looking for a candid, first-hand glimpse into the experiences of former servicemembers.

Diamond Lake Road set to re-open in late October amid work delays
After many delays, Diamond Lake Road in Lake County is now set to re-open by the end of October. The first delay was the result of creek diversion being overtopped by the large amount of rain (3-4 inches) that fell Sept. 17 -18, which postponed work on the site until the creek level went down.

Lake County officials celebrate Rollins Road Gateway project's completion
The Lake County Division of Transportation (DOT) celebrated the completion of the Rollins Road-Route 83 upgrade project recently at the intersection, an event several local officials attended. "The quality-of-life improvement of projects such as this are inestimable," Lake County Board member Jeff Werfel said.

Ela Road-Route 12 intersection-upgrade project postponed until spring
The intersection-improvement project underway at Ela Road and Route 12 in Lake Zurich has been postponed until spring, county officials said. The project, which began in August, was delayed when workers discovered a utility conflict on a corner of the intersection.

Lake County to accept public input on Route 53 Corridor Plan through Friday
Linda Pedersen, a board member from District 1 in Lake County, reminds all Lake County residents that they now have the opportunity to offer their input on the Illinois Route 53 Corridor Plan. There were two public open houses recently, but citizens can still submit their comments via email to the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning website through Friday.

Small Business Success in Lake County Goes Global event postponed
The Small Business Success in Lake County Goes Global event has been postponed and rescheduled for Thursday, May 5, 2016. The event originally was scheduled for Thursday Nov. 5, 2015. The Illinois Small Business Development Center of Lake County will host the annual event for people looking to take their small businesses to the next level.
